T1W8 Saturday, 28 February 2015

Dear children,

I hope that you have been studying for your English test tomorrow. The format will be similar to the practice paper that you did. The first section will be Editing of Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar (SPG). The second section will be Open-Ended (OE) Comprehension. Most of you will be able to do the Editing of SPG fairly well from what I have seen from your practice papers. However, for the comprehension, ensure that you answer the questions in complete sentences and use the CUB strategy.

C - Circle the Question words. (What, Where, When, Why, Who, How)
U - Underline the word that shows that the answer needs to be in Past Tense or Present Tense.
B - Bracket the clues in the passage.

With this strategy, you will be able to understand more clearly the requirements of the question and answer the question more confidently. Remember to start a sentence with CAPITAL letters and end with a full stop.

Besides this, there has been some concerns regarding next week's spelling. There WILL be spelling next week but because the English test is on Monday, I have decided the reduce the number of words for spelling. You will only be required to remember the FIRST 12 words/phrases in Week 8 spelling list. I repeat, only the FIRST 12 words/phrases.

That is all for now. Have a good weekend everyone!

Best regards,
Mr Luqman

T1W7 Wednesday, 18 February 2015

Dear children,

Happy Chinese New Year to all our friends who are celebrating this festival! For those who are not, Happy Holidays to you! I am sure that you have been looking forward to this long weekend since last week. Some of you will be going overseas while some will celebrate here in Singapore. Wherever you may be, take care of yourselves and your family members and enjoy!

However, there are several things that you must not forget over the long weekend. Firstly are the tests that will be coming soon. Take note of the following dates for the coming tests:
1)  (Week 8), 26 February 2015 - Science Test 1
Chapters Tested: Diversity of Living & Non-living things, Animals & Plants
2)  (Week 9), 2 March 2015 - English Test 1
Books Tested: Fearless Phil & The Gruffalo
3)  (Week 10), 9 March 2015 - Math Test 1
Chapters Tested: Numbers until 10,000 and Addition & Subtraction until 10,000

I have returned back your Science Diversity textbooks and workbooks for your revision. I have not finished marking all of your workbooks yet but I have returned them to you first so that you can revise over this long weekend. We will be going through the practice papers next week. For the other 2 subjects, I will return to you the relevant booklets/worksheets by next week too.

Besides this, I have assigned an English homework in Preston Grammar booklet. Please complete all the exercises in pages 32 & 33 of the booklet.

Last but not least, enjoy the photos from today's CNY celebrations! And congratulations to Rachel Teo for winning 2nd place overall for P3 Best Dressed competition!

Best regards,
Mr Luqman

T1W6 Saturday, 14 February 2015

Good morning children!

Firstly, I would like to commend and praise all of you for behaving well during yesterday's Speech and Drama's dress rehearsal. I can see that all of you put in a lot of effort in the rehearsal and remember your lines to the best that you can! I'll post the pictures and videos that I've took yesterday soon on this blog.

Secondly, I am very sure that you are excited about next week's CNY celebrations and public holiday! Please take note of the following points for next week:

  • There will be NO spelling next week. Week 7's spelling will be postponed to Week 8 and Week 8's spelling to Week 9.
  • Thursday & Friday, 19 February 2015 & 20 February 2015, are public holidays.
  • Timetable on Tuesday, 17 February 2015, will be replaced by Friday's timetable. However, MT remedial lessons on Tuesday will carry on as usual.
  • School session for Wednesday will be from 7.30am to 10am. You are encouraged to wear ethnic costumes on that day. However, if you do not want to wear an ethnic costume, you MUST wear school uniform. Things to bring on that day:

    1. Water bottle
    2. Stationery
    3. Story book
    4. Old rag (for a short 'spring cleaning' of classroom)
Lastly, remember the homework that I have assigned you over the weekend. There are 2 sets of worksheets that you must complete for Science. The first set is on animals. The second set is a practice paper for your topical test. Please take note that for that practice paper, skip these questions first for now: 10 and 14.

Hope you will have a good weekend and look forward to next week's holidays!

Best regards,
Mr Luqman

T1W6 Wednesday, 11 February 2015

Dear children,

I hoped that you have enjoyed our little trip to the garden earlier today. There were a huge diversity of plants in the garden right? Are you able to remember all their names? What is more important is for you to remember the different types of plants available; flowering & non-flowering plants and know their different characteristics. Enjoy the pictures below!

Best regards,
Mr Luqman
